Nurin's Speech and Drama Class @ Pianoforte, Taman Midah

It's been almost a year since we enrolled nurin for a speech and drama classes. It all started when teacher Kamala (her class teacher at Qasrina) told us that nurin is a bit reserved, do not want to participate in class activities and needs a lot of encouragement to speak her mind.

Following her suggestion, we (actually it's me) started to look for a suitable class for her. After a few hours of searching on the net, i found this school that specialising in piano lesson. They do offer speech and drama class as well as teakwondo. Her first class was on 15 July 2009 with a fee of RM80 a month and one hour class a week.

The teacher, Miss Tan is very helpful and full of ideas on how to encourage nurin to speak/voice out her opinion/participate in class etc. BTW, this is a one to one class.

The first few weeks were tough and funny though. She would not allow me to leave her alone and she do not even wants to see her teacher's face because she is very shy. According to Miss Tan, she is the most passive/reserved student she ever had. She would even running around the class just to avoid facing the teacher.

I told Miss Tan that she likes stickers especially barbie/princesses stickers very much. It really works very well as she will be given stickers every time she complete the task given. The more stickers she get, the happier she is.

To reduce her dependancy on me, I would drop her in front of the class and the teacher would fetch her with promise that i will be outside her class whenever she needs me. Although she hesitate at first, after a few classes it works very well. So, I would usually drop her outside pianoforte and went off straight to TESCO EXTRA to do some shopping/pray/eat etc.

Her english is getting better and more importantly, she enjoys the class very much. That is the most important thing.

This is her teacher's first comment for period from 15 July to 21 October 2010 " Nurin is rather soft spoken but she is willing to learn and improve her understanding of the language".

This is the second comment for period from 28 November 2009 to 27 January 2010 " Nurin has shown some improvement with her interactive skills. Although still soft spoken, she's willing to help out other students".

It is still a long way to go. She is getting better but, there are still room for improvement as she is still a bit shy and not keen to new challenges.
